CUTTING YOUR TRIP SHORT
My doctor confined me to my hotel room for four days. Can I claim for the days I lost?
In a real claim: A customer had a 14-night holiday and was confined to her hotel room for five days with gastroenteritis on medical advice. The claim was calculated as five-fourteenths of her non-refundable trip costs.
If your doctor confines you to your hotel room or a hospital because of illness or injury, you may be able to claim back a proportion of your trip cost for the days you couldn’t use. This is covered under the loss of holiday section. We work it out on a pro-rata basis once your claim has been assessed.
To support your claim, you’ll need written confirmation from your doctor confirming why you were confined and for how many full days. Get this before you leave your destination if you can, as it’s much harder to obtain afterwards. Your policy wording sets out the limits that apply to your level of cover.
