MEDEX AND REPAT
I used my Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) in Spain. Does that mean my insurance claim is handled automatically?
In a real claim: A customer in Spain used their GHIC and assumed the insurance claim was complete. When they needed repatriation three weeks later, coordination gaps increased the costs significantly.
Using your GHIC doesn’t open a claim with us or mean your costs will automatically be covered. What the GHIC gives you is access to state-provided healthcare in certain countries, often at the same rate locals pay. What it covers varies by country; it doesn’t include private care, repatriation, or many of the other things your travel insurance covers.
If you need to make a claim, you still need to call our Emergency Helpline.
