MEDEX AND REPAT

I have a well-managed pre-existing condition. My GP says I am fine to travel. Do I still have to declare it?

In a real claim: A customer with “well-managed” type 2 diabetes was told by their GP it did not need declaring. They suffered a diabetes-related complication on their trip. The claim was declined as the condition was undeclared.

Whether you need to declare a condition depends on the medical screening questions you’re asked when you take out your policy, not on your GP’s view of how well managed it is. A GP confirming you’re fit to travel doesn’t change what we ask you to tell us, or what we cover.

When you take out a policy, we’ll ask you a series of questions about your health.

Your answers to those questions determine what needs to be declared. If you’re unsure whether something applies, declare it anyway. Leaving something out could affect your claim.

If you’d like to talk through what you need to declare before you buy, call us on +44 1403 788 513 or email contact@ergo-travel.co.uk. We’re available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm UK time.
