PERSONAL BELONGINGS
How soon after something of mine is stolen should I report it to the police? Does timing matter?
In a real claim: Late reporting is one of the six most common decline reasons and appears even in cases where the underlying loss is genuine.
Report any theft to the police as soon as you can, and within 24 hours of discovering it. A written police report is required for us to consider your claim. Reporting quickly also gives the police the best chance of recovering your belongings and returning them if they’re found.
If reporting wasn’t possible within 24 hours, provide us with a clear explanation of why and any evidence to support it.
