CANCELLATION

My relative has a terminal diagnosis. We booked the holiday before she became ill. Are we covered?

In a real claim: Complaints data shows this is the most emotionally charged cancellation scenario. Four evidence gaps most commonly cause declines in exactly this situation.

We’re sorry to hear about your relative. We want to help you understand your position as quickly as possible.

The policy can cover cancellation in this situation. But a number of conditions need to be met. Your relative would need to fall within our definition of a close relative. The illness must’ve been unexpected. It must also have developed after you booked your trip or purchased this policy, whichever is later. You’ll need to provide medical evidence from a qualified practitioner too.

We wouldn’t be able to cover the cancellation where the illness existed before you booked. The same applies where it’s an ongoing deterioration of something already known. And we can’t cover it where someone is receiving end of life care.

If you’re not sure whether your situation qualifies, please don’t cancel your trip until you’ve spoken to us.
