CANCELLATION

Can I cancel my holiday for any reason and claim?

In a real claim: A customer cancelled a £3,400 trip because she was too anxious to fly. A family member had told her ‘travel insurance covers anything’. The policy had not been read before purchase.

No, not for any reason. Cancellation cover only pays out if you have to cancel for a specific reason. That reason has to be listed in your policy.

Covered reasons include the death, serious illness or injury of you or a close relative. They also include jury service, and emergency services personnel being called back due to an emergency. Serious damage to your home in the seven days before you travel is covered, as is involuntary redundancy.

If you cancel for a reason that isn’t listed, we wouldn’t be able to pay a claim. That includes no longer wanting to go, anxiety about flying, concerns about a political situation, or a relationship breakdown.

If you’re not sure whether your reason is covered, read your policy wording. Or call us before you cancel.
